HBMS 8th Grader to Compete in National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships
UPDATE: Emmie finished 10th in the nation in Louisville. Congratulations to our national champion!
Emmie Foster, 8th grade Hannah Beardsley Middle School student, will compete in the USA Track & Field (USATF) National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 9, 2023. Emmie is currently ranked 20th in her age group and placed second at the IESA Cross Country Meet in October.
“I can't wait to race with my team and try to get 1st at nationals,” said Foster.
Foster came in third place at regionals in Terre Haute, Indiana, which qualified her for nationals. “My time was 14:27 for 2.50 miles,” said Foster. To prepare, Foster does speed workouts, trains at the gym, and runs long distances and hills.
Foster is already looking ahead at what her future could hold, “I hope to make it into Stanford or another great college for cross country and track. I want to make it to the Olympics for track as well!” In addition, Foster would like to hold the world record for the 1600 and 2 mile when she is older. There is no slowing her down any time soon.
