Welcome back to the 2025-2026 school year!

Currently, we're cheering on Girls Conference Volleyball, City League Volleyball, and Cross Country!  Check out the calendar  to find out when their next games & meets are so you can cheer on the HBMS Bears!

Late Fall Sports Registrations will be opening up soon!  Get ready for Poms, Cheer, Boys Conference Basketball, and Boys City League Basketball!  Students MUST have a current physical on file with the school nurse in order to try out for the team. A sports physical is considered current for a year after it was issued, and can be obtained from a clinic like CVS or Walgreens, as well as from a family physician.  Visit ParentSquare to register and upload your physical.

There is a  District Athletic Fee for each Sport.

Art Club meets once a month on Thursdays in Room 114. Art Club will be held from 2:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students can get picked up at this time (or earlier) or take the Activity Bus at 4:15. This club is designed for ANY student interested in creating art regardless of skill/grade level. No need to sign up! Just show up to participate.  Any question, see Mrs. Banaszynski.

Pride Club is a safe space for students who identify as members of the LGBTQ plus community and their allies to discuss, share ideas, promote understanding, and simply be themselves.

Beardsley Live is Hannah Beardsley Middle School's TV show which is presented each morning to share the daily announcements and information about clubs, sports, and activities. Students audition for roles such as anchor, reporter, creative team member, and camera operator. Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year, and all students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to try out if they have an interest in being on camera, public speaking, writing, creating videos and creative content, and/or working with technology. Student participation is on-going throughout the school year once auditions have taken place and roles have been assigned.

Our mission is to use our bilingual abilities and leadership to positively influence our school and local community. We look for ways to provide services to our community through a variety of events.

ML bookclub is a great way to increase your enjoyment of reading, stamina for reading, practice reading and improve vocabulary, and  your English language knowledge and talk about books with others.

Choir is a year-round performance Club, much like band but without the grading. We learn techniques of vocal singing and music reading, along with plenty of music theory and history.  It's a great idea to join if you're into theater or singing in general.  We meet Mondays and Thursdays from 2:15 to 3:00 in Room 120 (music room).  There is a District Fee for this Club.  Please be sure to check the board outside of the Music Room for any changes to the schedule.

The Cooking Club meets 1 time per month October - March, in Room 119.  Cooking Club will be held from 2:25 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. Students can get picked up at this time (or earlier) or take the Activity Bus at 4:15. This club is designed for any student with any basic knowledge of cooking or has taken FACS class.  Sign up is required for each meeting, please see Mrs. Sutter for a permission slip or print here to reserve your spot. $2.00 cost is due with a signed permission slip. Flag Football Club meets once a week on Thursdays right outside the track. Flag Football Club will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students can get picked up at 3:30 or take the Activity Bus at 4:15. This club is designed for any student interested in playing recreational Flag Football regardless of skill/grade level. 

Here are some beginning rules for Flag Football Club.

Sportsmanship is our #1 rule. Please be Respectful,  Responsible, and Safe!

During all four plays, you get one play to do a run, and it resets after the halfway mark

During all plays, when the other team gets the ball and starts running, you need to pull the flag to down them

No flag guarding (no hitting away at other people's hands when they try to grab the flag)

After every three plays, the quarterback must swap out with someone else 

Flag guarding results in automatic turnover 

You can’t be off sides once the quarterback gets the ball(hikes it)

When you’re out of bounds during a catch, the catch doesn’t count, and when you run out of bounds, it’s down where you ran out of bounds

Win by getting more touchdowns than the other team

The time per game is 20 minutes. (2 games per day)

Any decision by a teacher is final, please be accountable and honest for the integrity of the game.

The NFPA Fluid Power Action Challenge is a STEM-based competition that challenges middle school students to solve an engineering problem using fluid power. Students work in teams to design and build a fluid power mechanism and then compete against other teams in a timed competition. Benefits of joining The Fluid Power Action Challenge include active engagement in learning about fluid power; a learning environment where math and science are fun; opportunities to practice teamwork, engineering, and problem-solving skills; and an Introduction to careers in the fluid power industry.

Interested in learning a language? Do you know Spanish and you want to learn another Latin language? If your answer is yes, this is your club!

The French Club meets once per week October - January, in Room 112. It will be held on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students can get picked up at this time or take the Activity Bus at 4:15. This club is designed for any student that is passionate about languages and likes to learn about different cultures. You only need a notebook to write and willingness to learn! Sign up is required, please see Mrs. Blanco for permission slip or print here to reserve your spot. Any questions, see Mrs. Blanco in Room 112.

2025–2026 Dates: 10/2, 10/9, 10/23, 11/6, 11/20, 12/11

We have Homework Club in the LMC on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:20-4:00.  This is a time for students to bring homework or projects with them and to use the time to quietly complete assignments. If students do not have work and are being disruptive, they will be asked to leave.  Homework Club is sponsored by different teachers throughout the week and they are available to help students if questions arise.

The Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program that empowers students to recognize warning signs and connect their peers to a trusted adult.

Hope squad students are nominated by their peers for being kind, a good listener, and trustworthy.

Students will learn how to play in many musical styles through performance in jazz band, including swing, samba, rock, etc. There will be two performing ensembles - the Jazz Lab Band (meets on M), and the Jazz Ensemble (meets on T and Th). These are auditioned ensembles.  See Mr. Martinez for more information.

This is a team of selected students who gather to provide feedback on the culture and community of HBMS as it aligns to our PBIS values - Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. The team will meet to review schoolwide data and help in the planning and implementation of celebration assemblies to recognize growth in these PBIS areas.

Hey Bears! Do you like trivia? Join the Scholastic Quiz Bowl! Our HBMS team competes against other schools from January-March. See Ms. Tamms in the LMC for more information. 2025–2026 competition dates to be announced. Tues./Thurs. practices will start in November.

Science Olympiad is a competition for students your age. You and a teammate will have fun competing in events such as the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. The regional event takes place at Harper College with many other schools participating in March. It is a fun way to meet other students interested in science while doing fun and challenging competitions. Athletic-style medals will be given to the top winners of each event. In addition, championship trophies will be awarded to the Division B school teams compiling the fewest total points during the Science Olympiad tournament, with a possible qualification for the state tournament in April.

Drama club provides 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with a full musical theater experience. Starting with auditions, drama club members work together to perform a full-scale musical in April. Students can sing, act, and dance on stage, or they can work behind the scenes on the tech crew. Check out the HBMS Drama Club Website for more information.

Student council is open to any 6th, 7th and 8th grade student to create monthly spirit weeks, sponsor fundraisers for our community, and participate in school-sponsored initiatives to make HBMS a great place to learn and be a positive voice to represent our school. Any questions, see Mrs. Eschman or Ms. Kwayzer.

• All meetings are held on TWICE monthly from September- May from 2:15- 3:00 pm in room 100 (Ms. Kwayzer's room).
• Students must be present for ONE meeting per month to continue participation even if deciding to be involved in other clubs, sports or activities. 
• If you would like a leadership role, you must be present for all/most meetings unless there is a school absence.

Homework club, in the LMC, will be available for students if waiting for an activity bus at 4:15pm. 

The National Junior Honor Society is a service organization that is in place to help the school and communities near and far. 

Students are required to attend monthly meetings from September to May. All NJHS meetings are mandatory. The meetings are critical to planning and communicating NJHS activities. Since NJHS is not meant to be an award but rather an opportunity for leadership and service, the meetings are the primary way students learn about and plan our service projects. Executive Board members will meet the day before the meeting to plan the agenda.

In order to be considered for NJHS, the following requirements must be met:

• Scholarship
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale after the 5th trimester at HBMS (6th and 7th grade)
• Service
  • This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
• Leadership
  • Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
• Character
  • The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally, maintains a clean disciplinary record.
• Citizenship
  • The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement; has a high regard for freedom and justice; respects the U.S. government; respects the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels; and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in activities such as scouting, community organizations, or school clubs.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement will have an opportunity to complete an application detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Notification of acceptance and the induction ceremony will take place in the spring.
